Letter : Washington, D.C., to [John Henry] Martindale, 1863 Dec. 15.

Autograph letter signed. Hardie writes General Martindale, Military Governor of Washington, D.C., that John S. Mosby, the guerrilla leader, is reported to be in town and should be found and arrested. A return answer, written by Captain Henry B. Todd, Provost Marshal of the city of San Francisco, on the inner leaves of the letter, claims that the man alluded to was not Mosby. He also includes a description of Mosby.
